MAUI DRIVING TOURS

If you want to get out and explore the island then why not try a driving tour? You just sit back and enjoy the scenery and let someone else do the driving! The most popular choice is the road to Hana but you can also go up country Maui, west Maui or the eastside experience! ACTIVE PURSUITS

Body surfing- riding the waves without a board! Becoming one with nature’s strongest force “the ocean”. It is a way of life in Hawaii, some rely just on their hands to ride the waves others use hand boards. If these options seem to harsh then you could try a body board or boogie board which would support the upper part of your body and become very manoeuvrable in the water , which ever you choose its guaranteed fun! Baldwin Beach has great bodysurfing waves almost year-round in the winter Mokuleia Beach is the best body surfing spot on the island.

FARMERS MARKETS

There is a great choice of farmers markets in Maui, Saturday is the market day in Maui county. With fresh produce and local crafts on offer - what a perfect place to sample the food and drink as well as present buying for those at home as well as yourself!

OCEAN KAYAKING

How about seeing Maui from the ocean just like the early Hawaiians did, one of Maui’s best kayak routes is along the Leihei coast. Early mornings are the best times as the wind comes up around 11am making it choppier and harder work! There are lots of Tour Company’s offering Kayaking trips, lessons and guided tours.

OCEAN RAFTING

If your semi adventurous and seeking a more intimate experience with the sea why not try ocean rafting? There are plenty of tours and they usually include coastal cruising and snorkelling trips and time with dolphins also.

PARASAILING

This is a cross between skydiving and water-skiing it involves sailing through the air held under a large parachute which is attached by a towline to a speed boat. You will certainly soar above the crowds! About 400 ft. Please bear in mind the parasailing tours do not run during whale season December - May.

SCUBA DIVING

This sport (passion) is some people’s sole purpose for coming to Maui, plunging into the Pacific and exploring the tropical underwater world. There is a great variety of tropical marine life some found nowhere else on the planet! Swim with turtles and monk seals then explore sea caves! Most trips run early morning as the trade winds often rough up the seas later in the day. Molokini a marine life park one of Hawaii’s top dive spots, the park caters for all levels of divers and snorkelers, as the crater has three tiers of diving.

SEA DIVES at NIGHT

Whether you’re an experienced diver or a novice you’ll be amazed at the beauty of the underwater world of Maui. Night dives are available and if you have never experienced a night dive then don’t miss out any longer give it a go, you wont be disappointed the underwater world comes alive at night! Again there are load of trips on offer also lots of diving courses available to choose from, however you spend your time in the underwater of Maui you wont be disappointed!

MAUI WHALES

From Alaska to Hawaii this is an annual journey for the Humpback Whales, they begin their migration in early fall some groups go the coast of Baja (Mexico) and some to the islands south east of Japan. The largest population of over 60% holiday in the waters that surround the Hawaiian Islands. A mere 3,500 miles from their winter home in Alaska, it takes the whales 4-8 weeks to complete. The youngsters arrive first followed by the adult males, females and then pregnant females. They leave Hawaii once the Alaskan waters warm up due to the photosynthesis .Small krill and schooling fish feed off this plant life and the humpback feed off the fish, an adult humpback can eat over 2000 pounds of krill a day! The waters of Hawaii are relatively nutrient free which is why the waters are so blue and clear, and much too warm to support the humpbacks food to satisfy them year round, they need to migrate back to Alaska to feed and thus rebuild their blubber supply.

DOLPHINS OF MAUI

The Hawaiian word for dolphin is Nai’a, there are four different types of dolphin found in the waters of Maui, these are the Spinner Dolphin, Rough Toothed Dolphin and Bottle Nosed Dolphin. Turtles or “Honu” as the Hawaiians call them are the beautiful green turtles that you will be able to enjoy the company of whether you choose to snorkel or dive around the island of Maui. There are two other species native to the islands The Leather Back, and the Hawsbill. The green is the most common these fascinating creatures have played very important Roles in both the culture and environment of the Hawaiians. There are lots of trips to see the turtles which also include snorkelling or diving and there is a choice of transport too, either the classic boat trip, kayak or catamaran they all have different things to offer you and show you different places to name a few islands Motokini, Turtle Town, Molokini crater or Lohaina.
